Preforming Waveform Math
The TAS 455 has features that allow you to add two signals
together to create a third signal. Newer oscilloscopes will
have more Math features than just add, however there are some
tricks to get the most out of add that will be displayed.
Adding Two Signals
Using channel one, obtain the first signal you wish to add.
Using channel two, obtain the second signal you wish to add.
Set the add mode to on, either using the MATH button if you
have one or use the ALT/CHOP, ADD button to combine the two functions.
The instrument should display a third waveform, that is the result of
adding the two waveforms together.
Now, if you have a scope with multiple MATH functions then this next
section may not apply, but here is how to subtract two waveforms with
the add function.
Subtracting Two Signals
Using channel one, obtain the first signal you wish to add.
Using channel two, obtain the second signal you wish to add.
Invert the waveform being displayed on channel two from the menus
on your scope (This invert function will be in different places based
on your scope).
Set the add mode to on, either using the MATH button if you have
one or use the ALT/CHOP, ADD button to combine the two functions.
The instrument should display a third waveform, that is the result
of subtracting the two waveforms (CH1 + (inverted CH2) = CH1 – CH2).
